I have an aloe vera plant at home. Would using the meat/gel from the plant – throwing it into a smoothie, for example, or blending it with water – work? Or is the "aloe vera juice" based on something else?

I think that actually would be much better, def much fresher! The "juice" is just a bottle you can pick up at the store that's mostly water, some chunks of the meat/gel, and stevia or other natural sweetener.
